Finding a 2 bedroom student house in Sheffield

If you’re looking for a 2 bedroom house, you will find that options are limited. A 2 bedroom house will most likely be a terrace house, many of the houses that are located in Sheffield are larger turn of the century type family homes that have been converted into either flats or houses of multiple occupations for larger groups of students. . Even in areas like Crookes with a high student population, much of the accommodation on offer is aimed at larger groups. There are properties available but coming across them can be difficult and if you have found one, availability is rare.

Looking further afield

If you do look for a 2 bedroom student house, just be aware that with the spiralling cost of living, rent amounts have gone up. Any property not marked as available for students can cost between £550 -£700 per calendar month. Add on any bills and it can quickly become unviable to afford to rent a house between 2 students.

Living in the suburbs further away from university can also greatly add transport costs of travelling into the city every day. the cost of a weekly Stagecoach ticket can be around £17 per person, not only is it a financial cost but also takes your time travelling.

Why not look for a city centre apartment instead?

Moving into a 2 bedroom city centre flat is definitely worth considering. The space of some flats can easily match that with a 2-bed terrace. The only downside is the lack of private outside space, but even then a terrace may not have more than a small yard. However, Sheffield is blessed with having loads of fantastic green spaces all over the city. Examples such as Weston Park, Crookes Valley, Rivilin Valley, Endcliffe Park and the Botanical gardens to name just a few.

Some may find that higher levels of pollution living in a city is off-putting. Sheffield is in the process of making the city a clean air zone. Being a smaller city than say London or Birmingham, pollution doesn’t reach higher levels. Especially as the economy has moved towards service-based as opposed to manufacturing.

In terms of cost of renting a 2 bed flat in Sheffield city centre, those that are set aside for students use i.e only available to cover 3 semesters, the price including bills can quite often be cheaper than renting an individual 2-bed house.

Nestled in between or on the outskirts of university buildings. 2-bed flats in Sheffield city centre are intertwined with the Universities location. No case of having to get up and get ready and commute to make it to lectures in time.
