History of the Refuge Assurance Building

The Refuge Assurance Company Ltd. was a life insurance and pensions company based in Manchester. It was founded in 1858 with offices in Sheffield. As such the original building name still remains in the address. After emerging with another company the offices became redundant. The lower floors turned into retail units whilst the upper floors are now student accommodation.
