What to actually take with you can depend on various situations, But if your unsure about what to bring here's our list of what to pack when moving into student accommodation in Sheffield.

Just for clarification, you won’t need to pack the kitchen sink as the saying goes. But what to actually take with you can depend on various situations, in general as you may be only stopping in your chosen accommodation for a year and possibly be limited to one room and some shared areas. Therefore as space may be at a premium look to pack only the essentials to get you through. It may be best to take less than more. But if your unsure about what to bring here’s our list of what to pack when moving into student accommodation in Sheffield.

What to pack when moving into student accommodation In Sheffield

Documents to bring

You won’t get very far without making sure that you take the correct documents with you. We recommend bringing the following

  • Valid photo ID such as a passport and/or a driving licence
  • Passport photo’s for any new ID you may need to get in University.

For Your Housing think about bringing

  • Your Accommodation Contract
  • Insurance Documents

For University

  • Your University/Course admission letters
  • Student Finance Documents
  • Scholarship or Bursary Letters

Money Information

  •  Student bank account details & debit card
  •  Student NUS & Discount cards

Health

  • Vaccination history (especially proof that you’ve received covid vaccinations if applicable)
  • Copies of prescription for medicines

It’s always a good idea to keep a second copy of important documents where possible either at home, in a small safe or stored safely digitally in case something happens to the originals while staying at university.

For Study

You’ll not necessarily receive your recommended course textbook lists yet, so don’t go overboard packing the books. But you will need some stationary, You can either take this with you or pick it up in Sheffield if needs be but as a guide, to get you started:

Printers & Ink

You will be able to print things at university, but if your someone who does a lot of printing or prints likes to work out of hours it may be more cost-effective to take your own.

Bedroom

All our bedrooms come with the furniture you’ll need such as bed, wardrobe and desk and drawers, You’ll just need to provide the following soft furnishings

Clothes

The weather in Sheffield can change from one extreme to the other quicker than you can blink an eyelid. It’s a good idea to pack a range of winter, and rain gear for September to march and pack some lighter summer clothes for April to July. In general, you’ll probably need a range to cover

  • Casual for the daytime and Uni
  • Going out clothes for nighttime
  • Smart for special occasions.
  • Don’t forget your sportswear if you’re into activities like the gym, swimming, cycling etc.

Have a think about storage will you have enough wardrobe and draw space for lots of outfits, Will you need to vacuum storage bags to keep clothes clean and fresh?

Kitchen

It’s probably best to double-check when viewing and before moving in what small appliances are available in the kitchen. If you’re in a house share, arrange with your housemates what everyone is bringing. Otherwise, you could end up with 5 sandwich toasters and no kettle. , Although great for hosting a toasty party it’s probably a bit extreme.

Moving into Student Accommodation Sheffield

Unless you’re looking to get a specialist firm which can be costly to move for you. You should look to take only the things you can fit into the back of a car or small van. Remember that you might be downsizing and not necessarily have room for everything so only pack the things you really need!

Most Importantly don’t forget your keys to your new digs!
